I felt that the first book, The Blade Itself, read a lot like a "first-book-of-a-series". Abercrombie built a solid foundation with that novel, but now in Before They Are Hanged, things really start to take off. Great twisted characters, great twisted plot -- I'm looking forward to when I get to finish this trilogy.
